Padelloni fishing huts

A typical feature of the Ravenna area and the wetlands of the Po Delta, padelloni or bilancioni are a typical fishing hut equipped with a net and used by fishermen in the rivers, valleys, lagoons or coastlines of Emilia Romagna.

Born as simple places of rest and shelter, built with rods and wooden planks, over time and especially since the 1950s, padelloni huts have been transformed into more stable and articulated structures, where fisherman can also spend moments of leisure and conviviality.

The typical fishing technique used by those who own a 'bilancione' is the so-called 'a bilancia' technique, which involves dipping a large square net into the water and lifting it up to collect the fish caught.

The shapes of the padelloni can be very different, but what they all have in common are the large nets on the water. If you want to see them in person, you have to drive along the roads or driveways that run along the waterways and valleys of the Adriatic coast.
