See the towers that still stand out against the city today, first and foremost the famous Two Towers (Garisenda and Asinelli) together with our guide. There are about twenty towers left in Bologna today, but in the Middle Ages there were over a hundred, built from the 12th century onwards by the city's noble families.
The towers were in fact a symbol of power, and a competition soon arose between rival families to challenge each other for the supremacy of height. The proliferation of towers led to the creation of a very distinctive skyline, which earned Bologna the nickname 'selva turrita' (turreted forest).
During the tour you can also discover some fascinating mediaeval courtyards overlooked by the so-called casetorri, torresotti and defensive towers, and visit one of the best preserved mediaeval towers in the city, the Prendiparte Tower. Climb the panoramic terrace and enjoy the view of Bologna’s roofs from above.
