Natural area, Bologna
Just a ten-minute drive from the centre of Bologna, Parco Cavaioni is a peaceful green area extending over 38 hectares in the hills of Bologna. Municipally owned since the 1960s, the park is the ideal destination for a walk in nature, a picnic on the grass and to breathe some fresh air during hot summer days.
Since the 18th century, the park area was occupied by fields and vineyards, later transformed into meadows and groves but still recognisable thanks to the presence of dirt paths called cavedagne. The very name of the park is reminiscent of the dialect term cavajàn, which evokes sheaves of wheat and is linked to the rural nature of the area.
The villa that we see at the entrance to the park dates back to the early 20th century and was called Villa Silvietta at the time. After years of restoration, the building was reopened to the public and now houses a restaurant; there is also a kiosk bar and a recently opened adventure park for children.
