Monte Paderno

The Monte Paderno (Mount Paderno) park is about ten minutes by car from Bologna, located at an altitude of about 360 metres. From its summit you can enjoy a beautiful view of the ravines below and on the surrounding area, characterised by woods and meadows, much appreciated by the Bolognese in their free time.

Its fame as a place dedicated to walking and sports in general dates back to the 18th century, when Monte Paderno received an illustrious visit. It was in 1786 when the famous German writer Goethe ventured into the area in search of barite, a mineral that was known at the time as the 'phosphoric stone of Paderno', a name linked to the phenomenon of phosphorescence by which Goethe was fascinated.

In the past the park was used entirely for agricultural activities. After the opening of the green area to the public, the fields were gradually transformed into lawns and small woods.

As we walk through it along the paths, we can admire various plant species including downy oaks - the typical local oaks - hazels, hornbeams, maples and many others. The shrubs of Monte Paderno include hawthorn and wild roses.
